Some writing and interviews
Recent posts around The Animal
Spent the last week working on some new music in Brooklyn, a pretty mind-blowing experience that I’ll get into at a later date.
Currently spending some days visiting family in Oregon: looking through Eugene’s record stores, long walks under tall trees, an endless stream of American sports on TV.
It’s always quite restorative to spend a bit of time in the US, allowing me to connect directly with friends, family, artists who are here. The myriad crises affecting this country are very real and palpable, but it’s rewarding to be together with people, to make things, to talk about what’s happening. Feels hopeful.
Wanted to highlight some recent writing / interviews on The Animal. We live in a time where there’s so much info bouncing around, which makes one appreciate even more when there’s thoughtful writing that gets into the music and takes its time.
I think Philip Sherburne has been a great practitioner of deep listening and thoughtful takes, and I was very happy for The Animal to be included in his recent roundup of current releases. It often takes time for records to settle in, and things like Sherburne’s Substack offer a means of engaging with records beyond the first few days of their release.
I also did an interview with the 15 Questions website recently, which gave me an opportunity to get into all kinds of musical (and extra-musical) ideas around the new record.
Been getting some nice messages from people out there who’ve been listening to the record. It means a lot to hear from folks, so thanks for listening.
